BOOK REVIEW: "BROKEN PEOPLE" "Simply the best mainstream novel I've read all year..."

Jay Squires review of Broken People, by Scott Hildreth states, "Simply the best mainstream novel I've read all year..."

JAY SQUIRE'S REVIEW OF BROKEN PEOPLE

"Broken People" is simply the best mainstream novel I've read this year. It is mainstream fiction at its finest. The story-lines unfold from the viewpoints of multiple characters, each one being explored to the full extent of his or her depth of emotion, intelligence and brokenness while weaving the unique thread of that character into the warp and woof of the finished fabric.

Don't expect the fabric to be beautiful, or even pleasing.

It is neither.

These are broken people. And the threads of their lives are split and frayed, one moment dazzlingly brilliant, the next moment faded; threads combine: the weakest point of one with the borrowed strength of the other then wound together and pulled through.

FAT KID's brokenness may repulse you. Good! That's what he wants ... while he exercises his own peculiar brand of genius.

MICHELLE, of Egyptian heritage, is broken by the collision of her independence against the crush of her family's cultural inflexibility.

DAVID is broken by the conflict between his sexual identity problems and his retired marine father's homophobia.

MARC & BRITNEY are two broken people made whole by their love--yet torn apart again by family and society.

Broken people, all, each touching the other. The threads of their lives are delicately and lovingly pulled through the loom by Scott Hildreth's creative genius to produce the fabric of this marvelous novel.

A spot at the top of Amazon's Bestseller list is reserved for "Broken People"!

From time to time, a novel comes along, and makes you stop. It makes you stop and second guess who you are, what you’re doing in life, with life, and for the ones you love. This is that book. Through colorfully painted characters, Broken People forces the reader to reflect on self. There will be a broken part of you in one (or all) of these characters. The characters in this book range in age from 17-28. There is deception, love, romance, suicide, high school, college, career choices, and family issues that all NA deal with. This book will make you cry, touch your heart, and have you with a lump in your throat, guaranteed.

The main protagonist, Fat Kid, is a self-proclaimed therapist who devotes his life to help people that have difficulties helping themselves, people he considers to be ‘broken’. Intentionally becoming obese in an effort to shield himself from the approach of outsiders wanting to better understand him, The Fat Kid hides behind his thick outer self. With an overbearing obnoxious attitude, he allows few people to enter his otherwise private life. Most of the people that he encounters come from his internet blog, and pose no real threat to him or to his odd lifestyle.

When he encounters a bulimic teenage girl through his internet blog who threatens to commit suicide, he begins to reflect on parts of his life that he has spent years repressing. He continues to assist her, and many other ‘Broken People’ through his blog. When he meets an extremely independent girl who challenges him, his way of living, and his way of viewing life, he reluctantly listens. In doing so he ponders his past mistakes, his future, and ultimately he finds his true self. Additionally, the characters included in the climax of the book tell a tale of romance.

I know this novel is remarkable. The market for this particular novel is vast. I have provided one hundred printed manuscripts to persons varying in age from 17-74, and the responses were all the same, "Wow, that was unbelievable, I am going to digest it and read it again." In fact, I placed my email address in the front of the book, and more than one Amazon reader has emailed me in the week that it has been released, and said they have already read it twice.

I am for the last weekend, making Broken People, free to the public.

It will be free for Saturday the 13th of July

If you take time to download it, read it, and PLEASE leave a review on Amazons site.

ALL 5 STAR REVIEWS
  • Simply put, this book is a must read.
Read this book with open eyes, open hearts and open minds. There are parts of us all in this wonderful piece. All of us are at one time or another the fat kid, the codependent, the suicide threat. If you can't identify then congratulations, you've never really lived and this book is not for you.
But for the rest of us. The rest of humanity that is perfectly imperfect. The rest of us with sleepless nights, lost and found dreams, self loathing, love that just is.....the rest of us, well, you will get it. You will understand, that everything is worth it. Everyone needs and deserves help. Everyone needs that chance to just....stay human.
Thank you Scott, you are a treasure. I'm looking forward to more from you. (Kate Crawford on Amazon)

  • Great book. If you haven't read this book you are truly missing out. Cover to cover one of the best books I've ever read and any age group should read it. This book hits on all the things that society deals with. Also an amazing ending that will make you speechless. Read it. (Jackson on Amazon)

  • AMAZING read! This story grabbed my attention for every character. Definitely made me look at how I perceive people around me! Written well and easy to read! Can't wait to read more from this author!! Passing along for my daughter to read! (gnatbug on Amazon)

  • I think this book can relate to many people on different levels of their lives. I think it also helps people realize that we are not alone in our feelings. It gives you a better appreciative value of your life and everyone else around you. I think one clear message in Broken People is to always take a step back and really look and get to know the situation and to see if there is something you can do or say that might help someone in their day to day situation in life. I would recommend this to all ages because it can be applied to everyone. I really think this was a great find. (M-M on Amazon)

  • This is a great and meaningful read for people of any age. There are moments of hilarity and moments of tragedy, but everything turns out okay. And the main character is very very funny, which makes the more serious parts easier to get through. (Liddeh on Amazon)
This book, in ten days, had 23 reviews. 22 were 5 star, and one was 4 star.
