20 Year EMS Medic reviews Broken People on Amazon, stating "I think this book should be a must read for parents of kids 12 or older..."

As a person who lost my 16 year old daughter, an EMS medic for over 20 years and have seen the tragedies that happen to children (including suicide even ran calls on 5 friends who decided to cash in their chips), taught K-12 and actually took the time to listen to the kids and now teach at a college level.

I think this book should be a must read for parents of kids 12 and older who are truly blind or indifferent in today's society to what is going on with their kids. It would also benefit the teens out there who also think everything is OK... The key is communication and not through email, txt messaging and fancy gadgets, I'm talking face to face!!!

We are all broken people in some way or another, some worse than others and they all have a story. If people would just take time to really listen, even if it is just finding that one person like FAT KID, but someone to listen!!!!!

Read the Book & Open Your Eyes (Ears) :)
(HUGZ review on Amazon.com)

First and foremost, HUGZ, I am sorry for your losses, sorry for your pain, and sorry for the loss of your 16 year old daughter.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is why I wrote this book. To allow people to realize, to feel, and to heal. This book is so many different things. It is a self-help book. It is a great novel that tells a great story. It is a book about suicide, about loss, about love, about racism, about grief, and about healing. About hiding from who you are for a lifetime, and then opening up and becoming real. Real with the world, and real with yourself. This book has no intended audience or age group. I carefully crafted it, intending for people 15-80 to enjoy it. The reviews prove that all that read it are able to take something from it. To date, people from ages 14-75 have read and enjoyed it. This book is raw, it is real, it is an in-your-face view of what kids today are doing, what they are thinking, and what parents don't quite understand.

If you're reading a book, why not read a book that will change something in your life? Define who you are, and then allow you to realize you are not alone? Make you realize something? Take a look at your parents? Take a look at your children? Take a look at yourself? We are all Broken, and there are others out there just like us.

Read this book today, and open your eyes to living life just a little differently.

Book Review : Broken People by Scott Hildreth receives another goodreads five star review

BROKEN PEOPLE RECEIVES ANOTHER 5 STAR REVIEW FROM GOODREADS
Broken People, by Scott Hildreth
My review may contain remarks/comments/quotes someone may find offensive, but they in no way reflect my view on the situation or person depicted. This is a review and therefore is only a reflection of my own personal feelings and emotions for the book and nothing more...

You ever read something that really...REALLY makes you think about life, your actions, your reactions, your personal feelings, your view of others?? Oh? No? There have been a few for me....and this is one of them. This story blew me away. I mean....really fucked with my emotions, my thinking, and honestly made my heart hurt a bit.

How does one begin to put their thoughts and emotions into words......let me attempt to....

"Broken people attract broken people"

The Fat Kid…""Chocolate. I need fucking chocolate."
David.... "God hates fags"
Marc...."Love that just is."
Britney..."Help. This. Girl."
Michelle"Stay human"

5 people....5 broken people.....5 beautifully broken stories...5 beatifully amazingly broken stars....Infinite messages....Many many emotions.

"Time passes, and things change. "

A heart wrenching story of broken souls finding broken souls. Broken souls mending broken souls. Broken souls saving broken souls.

Life ain't always beautiful.....Scott Hildreth's debut definitely forces us as readers to face that fact and see the ugliness, the darker side of life's dirty little secrets. He shows us that we are not alone in our fears, our insecurities...in a very raw and real way. You might not think of yourself broken, but everyone...in their own way...is somehow broken....if only a little bit.

"Knowing or admitting being broken doesn't help if we aren't conscious of just what the underlying problem is. I am conscious of my faults, my character defects, and my short comings. I do what I do, not to mask it or separate myself from the realization, but to make my life less painless.

I found myself relating to parts of this story's messages. This book forced me to take a look at my scars and my fears. Forced me to consider others....and their scars.
I am broken in my own ways....
"Letting down others hurts me far more than letting myself down. It disappoints me greatly to disappoint others."
I have my demons...but.....
"From destruction comes creation. Beauty will rise from the ashes."

Hildreth introduces us to "The Fat Kid"……
"I ate donuts the way a 110 pound Asian eats hot dogs at the Nathan's Hot Dog National Eating Championship. Bite. Drink. Swallow. Bite. Drink. Swallow."

He pads himself, uses vulgar language, acts like a snarky asshole at times..... all to shut people out. Why would someone want to get to know an obese, vulgar, insensitive human being? It's his defense against life....against failure....against getting close....against hurt.

He takes us on his journey....and gives us his broken and scattered puzzle pieces. Although there are multiple points of view, for me the "Fat Kid" is the focal point of the story. This is his life. This is his brilliant story of his road to redemption and forgiveness. This is him overcoming his incident

"Good friends, friends that really care, are a once in a life time thing."

My heart bled a little for each character. My compassion for their situation and their heart ache grew with each page I turned. Hildreth most definitely has an amazing sense of verbal prowess and an uncanny ability to tell each character's heart breaking story in a brilliant light.

As a parent, this book was some what of a self-help inspirational piece of art. Although I am not a parent to teen....yet...God forbid my child have to go thru any of the pain depicted or face any of the same issues. I can't 100% safe guard my child from all the pain or troubles in life, but I can damn well make sure that I am there every step of the way, helping walk them thru it when I can and holding their hand.....regardless is the situation. Full fledged support and understanding.

I would without any reservations recommend everyone to read this amazing story.

"If someone makes you think, keep them. If someone makes you feel, keep them."

This one is a keeper.........

From time to time, a novel comes along, and makes you stop. It makes you stop and second guess who you are, what you’re doing in life, with life, and for the ones you love. This is that book. Through colorfully painted characters, Broken People forces the reader to reflect on self. There will be a broken part of you in one (or all) of these characters. The characters in this book range in age from 17-28. There is deception, love, romance, suicide, high school, college, career choices, and family issues that all NA deal with. This book will make you cry, touch your heart, and have you with a lump in your throat, guaranteed.

The main protagonist, Fat Kid, is a self-proclaimed therapist who devotes his life to help people that have difficulties helping themselves, people he considers to be ‘broken’. Intentionally becoming obese in an effort to shield himself from the approach of outsiders wanting to better understand him, The Fat Kid hides behind his thick outer self. With an overbearing obnoxious attitude, he allows few people to enter his otherwise private life. Most of the people that he encounters come from his internet blog, and pose no real threat to him or to his odd lifestyle.

When he encounters a bulimic teenage girl through his internet blog who threatens to commit suicide, he begins to reflect on parts of his life that he has spent years repressing. He continues to assist her, and many other ‘Broken People’ through his blog. When he meets an extremely independent girl who challenges him, his way of living, and his way of viewing life, he reluctantly listens. In doing so he ponders his past mistakes, his future, and ultimately he finds his true self. Additionally, the characters included in the climax of the book tell a tale of romance.

I know this novel is remarkable. The market for this particular novel is vast. I have provided one hundred printed manuscripts to persons varying in age from 17-74, and the responses were all the same, "Wow, that was unbelievable, I am going to digest it and read it again." In fact, I placed my email address in the front of the book, and more than one Amazon reader has emailed me in the week that it has been released, and said they have already read it twice.

I am for the last weekend, making Broken People, free to the public.

It will be free for Saturday the 13th of July

If you take time to download it, read it, and PLEASE leave a review on Amazons site.

ALL 5 STAR REVIEWS
  • Simply put, this book is a must read.
Read this book with open eyes, open hearts and open minds. There are parts of us all in this wonderful piece. All of us are at one time or another the fat kid, the codependent, the suicide threat. If you can't identify then congratulations, you've never really lived and this book is not for you.
But for the rest of us. The rest of humanity that is perfectly imperfect. The rest of us with sleepless nights, lost and found dreams, self loathing, love that just is.....the rest of us, well, you will get it. You will understand, that everything is worth it. Everyone needs and deserves help. Everyone needs that chance to just....stay human.
Thank you Scott, you are a treasure. I'm looking forward to more from you. (Kate Crawford on Amazon)

  • Great book. If you haven't read this book you are truly missing out. Cover to cover one of the best books I've ever read and any age group should read it. This book hits on all the things that society deals with. Also an amazing ending that will make you speechless. Read it. (Jackson on Amazon)

  • AMAZING read! This story grabbed my attention for every character. Definitely made me look at how I perceive people around me! Written well and easy to read! Can't wait to read more from this author!! Passing along for my daughter to read! (gnatbug on Amazon)

  • I think this book can relate to many people on different levels of their lives. I think it also helps people realize that we are not alone in our feelings. It gives you a better appreciative value of your life and everyone else around you. I think one clear message in Broken People is to always take a step back and really look and get to know the situation and to see if there is something you can do or say that might help someone in their day to day situation in life. I would recommend this to all ages because it can be applied to everyone. I really think this was a great find. (M-M on Amazon)

  • This is a great and meaningful read for people of any age. There are moments of hilarity and moments of tragedy, but everything turns out okay. And the main character is very very funny, which makes the more serious parts easier to get through. (Liddeh on Amazon)
